A bizarre reptilian mystery lands on a suburban driveway — and it’s not the kind of visitor anyone expected.
Crocodile sightings are making headlines across Noosa right now — but for one Sunshine Coast couple, a recent croc encounter was far more up close and personal than most.
What they first assumed was just a large lizard turned out to be something far more sinister: a severed baby crocodile head, lying ominously at the end of their suburban driveway.
As Sunshine Coast wildlife photographer Tito Media arrived at their property to photograph the unusual discovery, the couple showed the head — unmistakably reptilian, with sharp teeth still intact and scales glistening in the sunlight. The rest of the animal was nowhere to be found. It appeared cleanly severed, as though some much larger predator had gotten to it first.
While some speculated a wild croc may have been taken by another animal, some experts were quick to suggest the crocodile was likely an escaped pet. Still, it’s not every day a real croc — even part of one — ends up in the middle of a quiet Sunshine Coast neighbourhood.
The couple later handed the head to the local school’s science department, where teachers suggested using an ant colony to naturally clean the flesh and preserve the skull as an educational specimen.
As someone who’s lived locally for years, I wasn’t entirely surprised. I’ve heard countless stories from Noosa residents claiming they’ve seen a crocodile in the waterways, and while they were often dismissed as tall tales, this bizarre incident certainly adds weight to the whispers.
In a time when crocodile sightings are ramping up and concerns grow about how far south these reptiles are roaming, this story serves as a stark reminder: the Sunshine Coast might not be as croc-free as we once thought.
